Ukrainian-Francophonie Academic Center Opening

The tasks of the Center include development of cultural and scientific relations and studies of French mentality peculiarties.


Karazin University has opened the Ukrainian-Francophonie Academic Center.

The event took place with the participation of the representatives of a French delegation: the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic in Ukraine, Alain Rémy, the President of Alliance Française, Jerome Kleman, the Counselor on Culture and Cooperation of the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine, the Director of the French Institute in Ukraine, Eric Tosatti, the Coordinator of the Alliance Française Activity in Ukraine, Marie-Annick Duhard, the Attaché for Cooperation in the French Language of the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine, Virginie Villechange, the Attaché for University and Scientific Cooperation of the Embassy of French Republic in Ukraine, the Director of the French-Ukrainian Center of the University and Scientific Cooperation, Gilles Mametz, the Attaché for Culture of the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine, the Executive Director of the French Institute in Ukraine, Matthieu Ardin, the Director Assistant of the French Institute in Ukraine, Muriel Manou, the Responsible for Cultural Programs of the Department of Culture and Communication of the French Institute in Ukraine, Oleh Sosnov, the Responsible for Communication and Public Relations of the Department of Culture and Communication of the French Institute in Ukraine, Oleksandra Sosnovska, the Plenipotentiary in Political Issues of the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine, Frédéric André, the Director of the Alliance Française in Kharkiv, Guillaume Martin, the employee of the Alliance Française in Kharkiv, Cédric Gras.

The University was represented by its President, Vil Bakirov, the University Vice-President, Zarif Nazyrov, the Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Valentyna Pasynok, the Director of the Center for International Cooperation, Olena Shapovalova, the Head of the International Activity Organization, Oleksandr Fadieiev, the Head of the Department of Romance Philology and Translation, Svitlana Kryvoruchko, the Head of the International Programs and Academic Mobility,Yuliia Makhnova.

“The history of relations between Karazin University and France counts 210 years: French scientists working at the University since its foundation made a great contribution to its establishment as a prominent center of science and culture. Today’s event is the next step in the development of the Ukrainian-French relations: the Ukrainian-Francophonie Academic Center is a window to the world of French culture and science,” pointed out Mr. Bakirov. Ms. Pasynok congratulated those present on the creation of the French center at the University.

The University President emphasized the opportunities of cooperation between the University and French educational institutions: the University of Rennes, the Université Lille, the Nice Sophia Antipolis University, Claude Bernard University, the University of Paris-Sud and the the École Polytechnique in Palaiseau. He also touched upon further development of the Ukrainian-French relations in the context of globalization and in terms of the recent accomplishments and achievements of the University in establishing international relations, and outlined the tasks of the Ukrainian-Francophonie Academic Center, including development of cultural and scientific relations and studies of French mentality peculiarties.
