V International Scientific Methodological Conference "Methodical and psycho-pedagogical problems of teaching foreign languages at present stage"

The School of Foreign Languages held V International Scientific Methodological Conference "Methodical and psycho-pedagogical problems of teaching foreign languages at present stage"


On November 22, 2012, on the initiative of the Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Practice, the School of Foreign Languages of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University held V International Scientific Methodological Conference "Methodical and psycho-pedagogical problems of teaching foreign languages at present stage".

This year's conference brought together 172 participants from 33 higher educational institutions of 19 cities of Ukraine, Russia, USA and Canada. Full Professor Yu. Kholin, Vice-President for research and educational work, opened the conference, welcomed the participants and wished them fruitful work.

The conference began with a plenary session with the reports of the Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Head of the Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Practice, Full Professor V. Pasynok, who spoke about the role of cultural background in teaching in higher educational establishment, honored guest of the conference, Professor of Philosophy of the University of Quebec (Canada) Daniel Vanderveken, who's report was devoted to the formal pragmatics of discourse. The plenary session also reviewd activity as a category of speech and thinking in terms of linguodidactics, foreign language training of future professionals as a component of professional education, methodological self-reflection of students of the pedagogical departments and other topical issues of modern methodics.

The conference program also included sessions in the following areas:

Common problems of training and supervision of training activities (supervisors:PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor Ya. Dovhopolova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor S. Sotnikova).

Linguodidactics and methodological aspects of teaching foreign languages (supervisors: PhD in Philology, Associate Professor O. Dudoladova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor N. Onishchenko).

Theory and methods of teaching foreign languages (supervisors: PhD in Philology, Associate Professor I. Skrypnik, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor O. Chornovol -Tkachenko).

The use of modern learning technologies in the training of students (supervisors: PhD in Philology, Associate Professor V. Serdiuk, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor T. Varenko).

Teaching and psychological aspects of learning foreign languages (supervisors: PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor I. Sverdlova, PhS in Pedagogy, Associate Professor M. Riabykh).

Teaching foreign professional and business communication and organization of students’ self-study (supervisors: PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor A. Kotova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor I. Tkalia).

Problems of Translation (supervisors: PhD in Philology, Associate Professor O. Beloziorova, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor T. Hanicheva).

After completion of sectional debates participants were able to attend workshops, "Formation of students skills in eliminating social and cultural gaps when working with authentic texts" and "Peculiarities of making tests for secondary schools".

The results of the conference were presented as abstracts.
