Traditional laying of flowers to the Monument of Vasyl Karazin and lighting of the fire of knowledge.
V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has held its traditional ceremony of initiation of first-year students into studentry. The ceremony took place with the participation of the Acting Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Yuliia Svitlychna, the University President, Vil Bakirov, vice-presidents, deans, faculty and students.
In his welcoming address to the first-year students, Mr. Bakirov pointed out that Karazin University enrollees are those interested not only in obtaining their diplomas, but primarily those eager to acquire knowledge and experience that will help them become competitive specialists.
"You are students of one of the best universities of Ukraine and Kharkiv region in particular. I believe that you are inspired, strong and confident young people, and that you will reach the heights you aspire," said Ms. Svitlychna.
Traditionally, the flower-laying ceremony took place at the Monument to Vasyl Karazin to honor the memory of the founder of the University, a prominent public figure and enlightener, followed by the lighting of the fire of knowledge symbolizing the seeking of and thirst for the deep treasury of the world science achievements.
The ceremony ended with the student anthem ‘Gaudeamus’ performed by the University Choir.
