Nature Seminar or Pragmatic Journey-Adventure

Echo of the IX International Scientific and Methodological Conference “Methodological and Psychological-Pedagogical Problems of Foreign Language Teaching at the Present Stage: Ways of Integrating Secondary and Higher Schools”.

After fruitful work of the IX International Scientific and Methodological Conference “Methodological and Psychological-Pedagogical Problems of Foreign Language Teaching at the Present Stage: Ways of Integrating Secondary and Higher Schools” held at the School of Foreign Languages on April 28, 2017, its participants’ methodological ideas have found their immediate implementation in working with students.

The travelling seminar was organized for students of the School of Foreign Languages studying German as a first and second foreign language. The event took place on the initiative of the Associate Dean for Research and tutor of MS students of the Department of German Philology and Translation Nataliia Onishchenko and the DAAD lecturer Cedric Reichel and with the participation of the researcher of the University of Bochum (Federal Republic Germany) Günther Depner.

When traveling to Skovorodynivka village the students under the guidance of Günther Depner got acquainted with the peculiarities of the use of communication formulae.

During the excursion about H. S. Skovoroda National Literary Memorial Museum, the participants of the seminar under the guidance of Nataliia Onishchenko improved their skills in consecutive interpretation of the tour-guide’s telling (almost 2 hours of spoken text) and had the opportunity to receive assessment of interpreting competence directly from native speakers. It is particularly worth noting the third-year students of English department for whom German is a second foreign language.

After the excursion, the students discussed the algorithm of didactisation of the listened materials with Cedric Reichel, particularly by means of a quiz.

The seminar became possible through cooperation between V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD as well as the Test DaF Institute.
