Knowledge Day at Karazin University

Karazin University has held its traditional ceremony of initiation into studentry.


V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has held its traditional ceremony of initiation into studentry. The event took place with the participation of the Deputy Head of the Office of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Anatolii Babichev, the University President, Vil Bakirov, Vice-Presidents, deans, faculty members, and students.

President Bakirov addressed the first-year students in his welcoming speech, “I am very glad to see many happy faces and shining smart eyes in front of me. You are the future of Ukraine. Today, we are together having one of the most important and special events in your life — Karazin University Corporation welcomes you. Today, you are becoming Karazin University students.”

“You have made the right choice. Karazin University is the best university in Ukraine. Within its walls, a happy future is waiting for you. I am sure that the University currently has all the conditions for obtaining quality knowledge and for having qaulity leisure. Karazin University is not only a brand of Kharkiv region but one of the whole Ukraine,” said Anatolii Babichev.

The Chairman of the Board of Kharkiv Regional Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, member of the Supervisory Board of the University, People’s Artist of Ukraine, Viktor Kovtun, pointed out that Karazin University has trained twelve laureates of Shevchenko Prize — the highest art award in Ukraine.

The Associate Professor of the School of Physics and Technology, laureate of the President of Ukraine’s Prize Valeriia Trusova welcomed those present with wishes of success and inspiration.

“You should not only be active and successful but also appreciate and take the opportunities the University provides. Set goals and achieve them. Let your student life be bright and unforgettable,” said the student of the School of Sociology, the bronze medalist of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Maryna Lytovchenko.

On behalf of the first-year students, the student oath was read by Olha Shevchenko, a student of the School of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, multiple winner of All-Ukrainian School Olympiads in Mathematics, absolute winner of the European Mathematics Olympiad for Girls (gold medal), and Oleksandr Kolomiets, a student of the School of Chemistry, multiple winner of All-Ukrainian Olympiads in Chemistry, silver medalist of the International Mendeleev Olympiad in Chemistry.

We, first-year students of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, joining the glorious Karazin University Corporation, solemnly swear in front of our parents, faculty and colleagues to:

Be worthy of the name of a student of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University throughout our lives! That we swear!

As is the tradition, there took place a ceremony of laying flowers to the Monument of Vasil Karazin to honor the memory of the University founder, outstanding public figure and enlightener. The torch of knowledge symbolizing aspiration and thirst for the rich treasury of the world science achievements got lit again.

At the end of the ceremony, the University choir performed the student anthem “Gaudeamus”.

After the festivities, Karazin University first-year students attended traditional assembly lectures.
