Associate Professor of the School Participates in the Conference in Switzerland

Svitlana Sotnykova highlighted the issue of teaching German as a foreign language.


On July 1 through August 4, 2017, the Associate Professor of the Department of German Philology and Translation of the School of Foreign Languages Svitlana Sotnykova took part in the XVI International Conference of Instructors and Teachers of German that took place in Fribourg (Switzerland). The conference was held under the slogan “Creating Bridges – Connecting with German: People – Life Worlds – Cultures”.

The event is recognized as the largest forum for instructors and teachers of German in the world. This year’s conference had more than 1,700 participants from all over the world.

In her report, Ms. Sotnykova highlighted the issue of teaching German as a foreign language at secondary schools and higher educational institutions of Ukraine and developing textbooks for German-speaking students.

In particular, the textbooks written by the authoring staff of the Department of German Philology and Translation of the School of Foreign Languages of Karazin University and two other Kharkiv higher educational institutions received favorable reviews from colleagues from different countries and sparkled no small interest of the international audience.
