School Holds the VI International Scientific-Methodological Conference

The Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Practice holds a scientific and methodological conference with international participation.

On November 21, 2013, on the initiative of the Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Practice, the School of Foreign Languages held the VI International Scientific and Methodological Conference “Methodological, Psychological and Pedagogical Problems of Teaching a Foreign Language at the Present Stage”. This year’s conference gathered scientific community representatives from 33 higher educational institutions of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and the USA.

At the Plenary Meeting the conference participants were welcomed by Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Professor Valentyna Pasynok and Associate Dean for Research, Associate Professor Natalia Onishchenko who wished everyone fruitful work, interesting discussions and new discoveries. The reports were given by Associate Professor Wilhelm von Timroth (Munich, Germany), Associate Professor Uliana Strizhak (Moscow, Russia), Full Professor Liudmyla Soloshchuk (Kharkiv, Ukraine), Full Professor Ilona Kostikova (Kharkiv, Ukraine), Full Professor Olena Morozova (Kharkiv, Ukraine).

The meeting mainly covered the following matters: the role of an educator in developing a student’s personality, enhancement of the polilogical competence of senior students at oral practice classes, implementation of multimedia technologies into foreign language teaching, verbal and non-verbal aspects of cultural behavior, the research potential of modern education and other pressing issues related to modern methods of teaching foreign languages.

The conference continued its work in the following sections:

  • General problems of studying and learning activity control
    (supervisors: Associate Professor Yana Dovhopolova, Senior Lecturer Olena Hrydasova);
  • Linguodidactic and methodological aspects of foreign language acquisition
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Iryna Morozova, Natalia Onishchenko);
  • Theory and methodology of foreign language acquisition
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Mykola Riabykh, Olha Chornovol-Tkachenko);
  • Use of modern technologies of teaching in professional training of students
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Anastaciia Ptushka, Tetiana Varenko);
  • Psychological aspects of foreign language acquisition
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Iryna Sverdlova, Viktoriia Serdiuk);
  • Teaching foreign language professional and business communication and organizing students’ self-study
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Viktor Kryvenko, Olena Mykhailova);
  • Didactic aspects of foreign language teaching and translation problems
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Lina Maievska, Olha Dudoladova).

After the sectional meetings the conference participants attended master-classes given by Associate Professor Tetiana Varenko “Internet Resources that can be Used with/by Students” and Associate Professors Olha Dudoladova and Yuliia Shamaieva “Teaching a Foreign Language as a means of Enhancing Cognitive-Emotional Development of a Linguistic Personality” (in Russian, PPT, 345 Kb).
