Conference in Germanic Studies

The School of Foreign Languages held the conference “Germanic Studies in the XXI Century: Cognitive, Socio- and Pragmalinguistics”.


The Department of German Philology and Translation of the School of Foreign Languages held the III All-Ukrainian Science Conference of Germanists (with international participation) “Germanic Studies in the XXI Century: Cognitive, Socio- and Pragmalinguistics” that took place on April 5, 2014 and brought together 74 scholars from 33 educational and scientific institutions from 26 cities of Ukraine, Russia, Moldova and Great Britain.

The participants of the conference were greeted by Viktor Kryvenko, Head of the Department of German Philology and Translation, and Nataliia Onishchenko, Associate Dean of the School of Foreign Languages for Research. They wished everyone efficient work and fruitful discussions.

The conference addressed the most contemporary issues of foreign philology, namely: cognitive linguistics, literary studies, sociolinguistics, pragmalinguistics, medialinguistics and discoursology. In particular, those present tackled the cognitive approaches in literature, the lexico-semantic, linguistic and folklore peculiarities of texts, the methodological foundations of comparative analysis in linguistics, the process of communication and problems of its understanding, the characteristics of the linguistic and discourse acts, the language of advertisement, representation of the ethnic in mass media.

The conference work resulted in publication of a compendium of abstracts of reports.
