 Contest "Freedom of Speech: Dangerous or In Danger": Awarding the Winners

Iryna Bilenko and Iryna Krushynska are among the winners.

Karazin University held a ceremony of awarding the winners of the video contest “Freedom of Speech: Dangerous or In Danger” held on the initiative of the Embassy of France in Ukraine.

The ceremony took place with the participation of the Cooperation and Cultural Action Counselor at the French Embassy in Ukraine, Eric Tosatti, the Director of the French Alliance in Kharkiv, Guillaume Martin, Karazin University President, Vil Bakirov, the Director of the Center for International Cooperation, Olena Shapovalova, the Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Valentyna Pasynok, faculty members and students of the University.

Mr. Bakirov stressed the importance of conducting such contests, and the relevance of its subject matter addressing the attitude towards freedom of speech and towards the opportunity to freely express ideas in society.

“Ukraine and France are much alike in terms of area, population, worldview, cultural wealth. Freedom of self-expression is characteristic of both the French and Ukraine after the declaration of its independence,” pointed out Ms. Pasynok.

One of the items on the agenda was demonstration of the winners’ videos, including that of the students of the School of Foreign Languages of Karazin University, Iryna Bilenko (group YaE-34) and Iryna Krushynska (group YaYa-21). The winners from Kharkiv were awarded within the framework of the event, too.
