Festive Graduation Ceremony – 2015

Congratulations to the School’s graduates! May you realize your enormous potential!


Karazin University has held a traditional festive graduation ceremony that always symbolizes the beginning of a new stage in life.

As is the tradition, the celebration began with the solemn procession from the University Main Building to M. V. Lysenko Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet House accompanied by the University brass band. The University alumni and faculty dressed in graduation gowns and caps and headed by the vice-presidents and deans proceeded through Taras Shevchenko Park where they symbolically laid flowers at Taras Shevchenko Monument.

At the Opera and Ballet House the graduates received congratulations from Karazin University President, Vil Bakirov, the First Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Science of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Oleksandr Trush, the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv, Stanisław Łukasik, the Head of the Board of Kharkiv regional organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, member of the University Supervisory Board, People's Artist of Ukraine, Viktor Kovtun, and the Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language of the School of Philology, author of the University anthem text, Volodymyr Kalashnyk.

In his welcoming speech Mr. Bakirov pointed out, “Today, you, graduates of 2015, are joining the pleiad of outstanding and bright Karazin University alumni, who are Nobel laureates, prominent figures of science and culture. Their names are immortalized in the geographical names, the names of space objects, plants and minerals, laws and formulae. You are continuing the many-century relay of triumph for intellect, spirituality and high creativity. For five years, we have been doing our best to teach you your future professions, innovative thinking, independent generation of new knowledge, models of professional activity in unconventional situations of the postindustrial era.”

Mr. Trush passed on the greetings (PDF, 148 Kb) from the Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration. Mr. Kalashnyk congratulated the graduates on behalf of the University faculty in a poem (PDF, in Ukrainian, 133 Kb), and wished them courage in making important life decisions and in expressing their civic stands.

The graduate from the School of Foreign Languages, Svitlana Tarasova, thanked the University on behalf of all the graduates, “Today is the end of our student years. On the one hand, this is a cheerful event, on the other hand, we, all the graduates, already miss the University, lectures, exams, enjoyable classes… Our years at the University will always remain a brightest page in our life. The University is not just a building and lecture halls, this is, first of all, people: faculty and us, students. Our lecturers have been our best, true University instructors and supporters. They have always understood us, helped with advice. Their devotion to the University impressed us. Surely, we all are also very grateful to our parents for their support and understanding. Our parents are our support in all our deeds, beginnings and feelings! We have a long life and many victories ahead of us. Today is a new stage of our life, but we will bear the title of the University graduate throughout our life with dignity. Long live Alma Mater! Long live our University!”

During the event, the graduate from the School of Foreign Languages, Head of the Research Society of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists of the University, multiple winner of student contests and competitions, Svitlana Tarasova, was awarded a commendation from Kharkiv Regional State Administration for excellent academic performance, active participation in scientific and creative life of Kharkiv region and to marks the occasion of graduation from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.Svitlana has also been awarded the University memorable medal bearing the sign Ingenio et Moribus.

The graduate of the School of Foreign Languages, head of the University Student Council, Andrii Lavrenovych, was awarded a diploma of merit from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University for his significant contribution to organization of student life at the University, active creative activity during the years of study, and for the credit and respect earned.

The festivities ended with a gala concert prepared by the University’s creative teams: Sontsevorot dancing ensemble, Academic Student Choir, Univer vocal band, and students and alumni of the University.
