VII International Scientific-Methodological Conference: Wrap-Up

The Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Practice held a scientific and methodological conference with international participation.

On November 20, 2014, on the initiative of the Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methods and Practice, the School of Foreign Languages held the VII International Scientific and Methodological Conference Methodological, Psychological and Pedagogical Problems of Teaching a Foreign Language at the Present Stage. This year’s conference brought together scientific community representatives from Ukraine, and France from 25 higher educational institutions and two secondary schools.

At the Plenary Meeting the conference participants were welcomed by Yurii Kholin, Vice-President of the University. The reports were presented by Valentyna Pasynok, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Viktoriia Samokhina, Head of the Department of English Philology, Ilona Kostikova, Head of the Department of English Language Theory and Practice of H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.

The meeting mainly addressed multimedia technologies in teaching foreign languages and translation, pedagogical speech functions, and teaching foreign communication culture.

The conference continued its work in the following sections:

  • General problems of studying and learning activity control
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Yana Dovhopolova, Iryna Sverdlova);
  • Linguodidactic and methodological aspects of foreign language acquisition
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Olha Dudoladova, Yuliia Shamaieva);
  • Theory and methodology of foreign language acquisition
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Mykola Riabykh,Nataliia Kovalchuk);
  • Use of modern technologies of teaching in professional training of students
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Olena Hrydasova, Iryna Morozova);
  • Teaching foreign language professional and business communication and translation problems
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Alla Olkhovska, Olena Mykhailova);
  • Didactic and psychological aspects of foreign language teaching
    (supervisors: Associate Professors Olha Chornovol-Tkachenko Iryna Skrypnyk).

After the sectional meetings the conference participants attended master-classes given by Associate Professor Tetiana Varenko “Google Classroom in foreign language teaching” and Associate Professor Nataliia Onishchenko “Markers of Teacher’s Presence in the Classroom” (PPT, 1,52 Мb).

The conference results were published in the compendium of abstracts of the reports
