Academic Work at the Department of Foreign Languages for Professional Purposes

The Department of Foreign Languages for Professional Purposeswas established in 2022 as a combined department of two structural subdivisions of the Faculty of Foreign Languages: the Department of the English language and the Department of the German and FrenchLanguages for the specialized training of bachelors and masters of non-language faculties, as well as doctors of philosophy, later for teaching of interfaculty disciplines (French and German languages).

Education is carried out according to four-year and six-year plans: all disciplines correspond to the standard program of English, German and French languages for professional purposes, introduced by the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, pan-European recommendations on language education and the national qualification level of foreign language teaching. This involves the creation of the necessary prerequisites to ensure the high qualification of students and post-graduate students through mastery of a foreign language in an amount corresponding to the level of B2 proficiency for bachelors and C1 for masters and post-graduate students.

The department trains students of higher education of the first (bachelor’s) and 2nd (master’s) levels of full-time and part-time education according to educational programs:

The uniqueness of the educational and methodical work at the department is that it covers all students of non-language faculties of full-time and part-time studies, as well as PhDs, which also means a great responsibility for the formation of their professional competence in a foreign language. Programs of educational disciplines are drawn up in accordance with the educational and professional (educational and scientific) training program for the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) educational qualification levels with the aim of implementing project 2.10 “English in the educational space. University development strategies for 2019-2025”.

Interuniversity and international projects are carried out at the Department of Foreign Languages for Professional Purposes: Drop-in Café and Paper Airplanes (together with international partner organizations TESOL-Ukraine and Global Service Corps, USA), “Digital Bridge” (together with Berlin Technical University, Germany). The department conducts active career orientation work with future students of higher education, holding numerous events such as competitions of creative works in English, German and French “Aspiration” and “Inspiration”. Major events include the All-Ukrainian student scientific conference with international participation “Academic and Scientific Challenges of the 21st Century. CLIL in action”, student scientific online conference “Modern trends in science”, as well as 18 scientific and practical conferences with students at non-language faculties of the university.
