Dear colleagues!

The VII International scientific conference under the title "Literary Phenomena in the History and in the Modern" ("Geographical space and literary text")will take place in V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University(in cooperation Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University, Palermo University, Parma University and the Catholic University in Ruzomberok)on April 16-17,2021.

The location of the conference:4, Svobody Sq., Kharkiv, Department of the Roman Philology and Translation, Foreign Languages School, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine. *in case of aggravation of the epidemiological situation, the conference will be held online through a video service Google Meet.

Questions for discussion:

ØGeographical space as a factor of poetics;

ØLandscape-territorial images and myths. Ideologization of the landscape;

ØSpatiotemporal continuum, transgressiveness and reference;

ØNegative geopoetics, natural-geographical determinism and artistic text;

Ø"Geopoetics" of national landscapes in the context of discourse and translation studies;

ØPoetics of the urban landscape;

ØArtistic picture of the world and cartography of literary texts: geopoetic perspective;

ØThe phenomenon of travel and creative existence: from "geopoetry" to "geoprose";

On June 9-11, 2020, the III Italy-Ukraine Conference celebrating the Italian Research Day in the World will be held, this year in a webinar format due to the COVID-19 emergency that made traveling impossible.

Organized at the initiative of the Embassy of Italy to Ukraine (Kyiv), V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Ukraine), and INAF — National Institute of Astrophysics (Italy), the web meeting deals with the question: “Are We Alone in the Universe?”, a very topical issue addressed in different aspects: scientific, technological, astrophysical, philosophical, sociological, legal, historical, biological, futurological, theological, and many more.

The scientific reports by qualified specialists will be delivered with subtitles in Italian, Ukrainian, and English.

In March 2020, the French Universities Agency (AUF) held a Contest for the Best Original French-language Poetry, accompanied by an illustration of the author. An outstanding victory in this competition was won by a student of the 1st year Master's Degree in the Department of Roman Philology and Translation Anna BOGACHENKO. We are proud of our student and wish her new brilliant victories!

The VI International scientific conference underthe title "Artistic phenomena in the modern history" ("Memory and identity") will take place in V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (in cooperation with Palermo University and the Catholic University in Ruzomberok) on April 03-04, 2020 in online form.

The conference aims to discuss the wide range of issues related to a topic of memory through the prism of philology, the theory of translation and methods of teaching languages, literature and translation.

Questions for discussion:

- Memory as a plot-forming element

- Artistic dimensions of memory

- Memory of a personality and memory of a community

- Nostalgic and active memory

- "Places of memory" in a literary text

- Language. Communication Memory

- Methods and technologies of teaching foreign languages at the secondary and higher school: actualization of issues of the national memory and identity.

Working languages of the conference: English, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, French.

After the work of the conference, there will be possible to publish the full text of the lecture in the form of the scientific article in the International scientific peer-reviewed electronic edition «Accents and Paradoxes of Modern Philology» (http://periodicals.karazin.ua/accentsjournal, ISSN 2521-6481). Dear students and colleagues!

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved measures to be taken regarding the coronavirus infection in Ukraine and to prevent COVID-19 from spreading. In particular, according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, a nationwide quarantine has been declared for a period of three weeks: from March 12 to April 3, 2020.

In accordance with the University President’s order “On Measures to Prevent the Spread of Acute Respiratory Disease Caused by Coronavirus 2019-nCoV”, with the aim of preventing the spread of coronavirus infection among the population of the region, Karazin University announced a quarantine. However, the University continues to work. New formats of work in the main areas of the University’s activity have been introduced.

Instruction

Classes are being held online only. During the quarantine, the presence of unauthorized persons in student hostels, accommodation of students in the hostels without medical certificates, students' gatherings, celebrations and other events are prohibited.

Operation

By the decision of heads of departments and subdivisions, the University employees switch to flexible (remote) work, according to their approved schedule, provided that they fully carry out their duties. The University staff who will work during the quarantine at their workplaces will be provided with masks and disinfectants.

Meetings of academic boards, scientific and methodological committees, and other bodies will be held in case of operational need in an online format. Meetings of thesis committees were postponed.

Events

It is forbidden to hold on-campus educational, scientific, social, sporting, art and entertaining events, including competitions, spartakiads, contests, exhibitions, concerts, external independent evaluation, etc.

Mobility

Students and faculty are restricted from traveling to countries where cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded.

Also, the University has stopped inviting foreign citizens to study or undergo internships and receiving foreign delegations until the situation is back to normal.

Actions in case of illness

Students can seek medical help at the City Student Hospital at 8/10 Darvina St. The medical center was temporarily transferred to the Student Hospital, which will operate as usual.

Employees with symptoms of acute respiratory illness should inform the head of the University subdivision, stay at home, and contact a health care center.

On February 22, 2020, the final of the 1st All-Ukrainian Translation Competition among Lviv European students was held. In the nomination “French language” the first place was taken by the student of the 1st year of the Master's Degree in the Department of Romance Philology and Translation Veronica Halychyna. We sincerely congratulate the winner and wish you every success!


From 26 to 29 November 2019, at the invitation of the Department of Romance Philology and Translation and the Department of German and French Languages, the Faculty of Foreign Languages visited Ms Estelle Sallron (IPC, Paris, France). During the visit the opportunities for studying at the Karazin University of French students were presented, Mrs. Sallron gave an open lecture "Baudelaire: Principles of Analysis of Prose Works" for students and teachers of French language, held a methodical seminar "New Perspectives on the Foreign Language Teaching with French Participation" and teachers of HEIs of Kharkiv, organized a student colloquium "Ukrainica", discussed the prospects of future cooperation vectors.

On November 16, 2019, students and professors of the Department of Romance Philology and Translation joined in celebrating the 215th anniversary of Karazin University. Inga YATSENKO, Simona MERCANTINI and students of 1-2 courses of the French department took part in the planting of 215 trees on the occasion of the 215th anniversary of the University in the Botanical Garden.

On October 21-27, 2019, the Department of Romance Philology and Translation co-organized a series of events of the XIXth Week of Italian in the World "Italian on the Stage". Teachers and students of the Italian department took part in an open lecture "Italian Language and Theater", visited the opera "Aida" and held a round-table talk "Italian language on stage".

On October 9, 2019, the 1st Student Colloquium "Romance Languages and Civilization" was held, which was attended by students of the Spanish, Italian and French departments of the Department of Romance Philology and Translation. Tetyana CHERKASHYNA, Inga YATSENKO, Alina PASHKOVA, SIMONA MERCANTINI spoke about Romance languages in the world and at the Karazin University during the plenary session. Daria HORBATOVSKA and Taisia KLIMENOVA shared their impressions of pedagogical practice in the State Scientific Lyceum Galileo Ferarisa (Varese, Italy). In interactive and theatrical forms discussed linguistic features of Spanish-speaking, Italian-speaking and French-speaking countries. The best presentations were awarded special prizes. Among the invited guests were students and teachers of 17, 45, 118, 119 and 166 Kharkiv schools.
